Leg Restraints
Leg restraints are the same shape as wrist restraints, only larger. Restraining all four limbs is only for extreme situations when dealing with a patient who is wildly combative. It is for short-term use only, and the same rules apply with regard to range of motion. To make sure that every limb receives full range of motion every hour, the nurse has to free one every fifteen minutes. In most such cases, the physician will order some form of sedation. When the medication takes effect, usually the nurse can remove the leg restraints. |
