Restraints
The subject of restraints always comes up with the discussion of preventing falls in high-risk patients. There have been injuries related to the misuse of restraints. Falls and other injuries resulting from ripping out items such as urinary bladder catheters are also sometimes related to the failure to apply restraints or to their improper application. To protect family and friends while in the hospital you need to learn about restraints and their appropriate use. The restraints currently in use are four side rails, vest restraints (e.g., Poseys), wrist restraints, and leg restraints. |
