New Gloves for Each Patient
Another undesirable behavior is someone who enters your room still wearing the gloves used on the last patient. This is blatantly reckless, and you would help yourself and others by speaking out against this. On the other hand, it is possible that the person put on a new pair of gloves just prior to entering your room and you did not see it. In that case, you should always ask if those gloves are new. If you have any doubts, you should insist on them being changed anyway. Protecting your health is more important than shielding the staff person's ego, although any request can be made in a way that does not arouse anger and resentment (see Chapter 11 for details on communication). |
