Avoiding Pressure
Avoiding pressure goes back to the need for vigilance in turning the person every two hours and providing pads and a flotation mattress. No treatment will be effective if the compression continues unabated. This is why if you have discovered a bedsore, you have to make time to visit the administrative people and take them to task. Do not simply talk to the nurse. I cannot overemphasize that this is a matter of life or death and you must get people to pay attention. Every hospital has some good people who are genuinely concerned about patients or at least who are concerned about maintaining a good public image. On the other hand, if you cannot get anyone to respond, call the state health department and file a complaint. Again, your goal here is to simply get the nurses to turn the patient every two hours, document the turning so you can check it, and provide padding and a flotation mattress. They must stop the prolonged pressure. |
